The Lacanche Range Cooker6 min read

Updated with new projects 9/5/23

Behind the stunning enamelled exterior of a Lacanche range lies a seriously heavy-duty cooking platform engineered to perform in the world’s most demanding kitchens. With its looks and different models available, the Lacanche is a serious cooker for serious cooks, looking perfect in a handmade kitchen.

Apart from its extraordinary heritage, the Lananche range cooker is different from other range cookers on the market because they are still being made to exact standards by hand to order. Every cooker is meticulously created – solid and built to last and offers years of service in a demanding environment.

On top of this, the Lacanche offers a phenomenal, truly professional performance, and whilst being extraordinarily versatile, they have a deliberate, implicit simplicity, making them simple to use and maintain. They are individually made to your specification and available in 25 beautiful enamel finishes with four different trim options.

The History of Lacanche

We take you on a timeline from the 15th Century to today in 2023 of the Lacanche range cooker.

  • During the 15th Century, Phillip the Good, the Duke of Burgundy established a foundry in the village of Lacanche.
  • 1763 was the year that Jean-Baptiste Richard de Curtile, the Lord of Ivry, Coraboeuf, Bligny, Curtil, Cussy-La-Colonne, Lacanche and a musketeer of the king’s guard, constructed a blast furnace in the village of Lacanche.
  • In 1895, Jacques Étienne Caumartin continued to develop the foundry and manufacturing of cast iron ranges.
  • In the early 19th Century, Ferdinand Coste and his family continued to develop the industrialisation of the village and launched the first models of kitchen stoves, creating the kitchen piano brand Lacanche.
  • During the 20th Century, the Lacanche Ironworks continued to manufacture cast iron stoves for stately homes and the professional trade until 1972 when the site was purchased by a corporate subsidiary of the Valéo company.
  • André Augagneur, his wife and a few partners purchased the factory in 1981 and began the process of returning the factory to its former glory, focusing on the Lacanche range and the commercial brand Ambassade de Bourgogne.
  • Fast forward to today (2023), Lacanche range cookers are still built on the same site. As a family-owned business, Lacanche honours its rich heritage and culturally significant past, while celebrating its innate French heritage of innovation, quality, and respect for people and the environment, in each beautifully handcrafted range.

Lacanche range cookers are sold across five continents.
