Not Just A Cooker Hood, A Westin Cooker Hood6 min read

Founded in the heart of Yorkshire in 1921, Westin – The Cooker Hood Specialists was born. At Planet Furniture, we love working with Westin, providing our clients with fresh air from Yorkshire in their new kitchens. This well-established manufacturer of beautiful and high-quality cooker hoods has designed a truly functional product that removes steam, smoke and unwanted smells from the cooking environment. Built from a stainless steel construction, this ensures long-term durability and bacterial stability, as well as a beautiful finish. It isn’t just a cooker hood they sell, they select a hood that will work perfectly in harmony with the most important factors, how you like to cook and how you plan to use the kitchen. Being a British handmade kitchen company, we firmly believe that all cooking should be without compromise in performance or design, and this is why we work with a company such as Westin.

Over the years, Westin has become a name synoymous with quality and excellence within the British kitchen industry.

The Short Answer

A bespoke cooker hood is an extractor built into cabinetry, a chimney or a mantel, so it removes steam, smoke and cooking smells without dominating the kitchen. Westin, the Yorkshire cooker hood specialist, makes ceiling, built-in, island, wall, professional and worktop-level surface hoods, and can build a fully bespoke design. How well any hood performs depends on duct size, length and bends as much as on motor power, so it should be chosen around how you cook and where the hob sits.

Choosing the right one and learning about the different series

The power of the motor does not just determine the effectiveness of a cooker hood, it is affected by duct size, duct length, duct bends and the area available for the fumes to collect prior to extraction.

Ceiling Series

The hoods in the ceiling series are designed to fit British ceilings and are ideal for open-plan kitchens, giving a clear, unobstructed view. They are most effective when mounted at the highest point, providing extraction for the whole room and not just the local area of the hob.

Built-in Series

The built-in series hoods are designed to fit into a cabinet, inglenook or mantel above the hob. They are very effective at local extraction from the hob. The fumes reach the hood within seconds and are extracted quickly.

Island Series

These hoods are designed as statement pieces over an island. They are built in an eye-catching design with unique styles to ensure that the island becomes the key feature in the kitchen.

Wall Series

Westin’s wall-mounted hoods come in a wide range of designs from the more traditional to the ultra-modern.

Professional Series

The professional series features a selection of Westin hoods designed for the keen home cook, including that all-important extra power.

Surface Series

These hoods that are worktop level are discreet units which are ideal for minimalist kitchen designs. The extraction can be integrated within fully featured induction hobs, or a downdraft unit can be used. Westin Bespoke Whether you require a custom design of hood, a specialised finish, a more powerful performance or just something a little bit different – then Westin Bespoke offers you the opportunity to design a cooker hood to your exact requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a bespoke cooker hood?

A bespoke cooker hood is an extractor designed into the kitchen itself, usually built into a cabinet, chimney or mantel above the hob. Westin Bespoke can also make a hood to your exact requirements, with a custom design, a specialised finish or extra extraction power.

Which type of cooker hood is best for my kitchen?

It depends on the layout. Ceiling hoods suit open-plan kitchens because they extract from the whole room and leave the view clear. Built-in hoods sit in a cabinet, inglenook or mantel and are very effective at local extraction. Island hoods are statement pieces, while surface hoods and downdraft units suit minimalist designs.

Does a more powerful motor mean better extraction?

Not on its own. A cooker hood’s effectiveness also depends on the duct size, the duct length, the number of bends and the area available for fumes to collect before extraction. A well-planned duct run matters as much as the motor.

Can a cooker hood be hidden in a mantel or cabinetry?

Yes. Westin’s built-in series, including the Prime and Cache extractors, is designed to fit into a cabinet, chimney or mantel above the hob, so only the canopy or surrounding joinery is visible.

What cooker hood works with a range cooker?

A built-in extractor set into a mantel above the range is a popular choice. We have fitted the Westin Prime above Lacanche range cookers, and the Westin Bloque Pro, a dual motor version with extra power, increased depth and a vaulted fume catchment area, for keen cooks.
