Winter is officially upon us, we are in the middle of November and December is slowly creeping up on us, this only means one thing… creating a cosy and inviting space for the months we spend indoors. Are you thinking of re-styling your home and not sure what colours to use? The team at Planet Furniture have come up with a super helpful guide for adding a winter colour palette to the heart of the home.
Injecting warmer colours into the home will create a tranquil space to relax, cook and entertain in. It could be something as simple as a stack of new cushions for the bespoke banquette, a freshen-up on the kitchen cabinets with a new paint colour choice, adding a new light fitting over that kitchen island or completely changing the whole design.
Take a look below at some of our favourite colour palettes for this time of year. Our bespoke handmade furniture can be hand-painted in any colour you wish. The possibilities are endless in creating an inviting and snuggly place for you and your family to enjoy together.
A black-coloured cabinet with a mixture of wood and metals
We always think of a white colour scheme for a winter mix or classic kitchen style, but taking risks with a highly contrasting dark hue is becoming a theme for now and the future. We have hand-painted many of our client’s kitchens in dark hues such as Off-Black, Railings and Down Pipe, all from Farrow & Ball.
Adding dark cabinets to the main room of the home represents elegance and a rich luxurious aesthetic. Let’s have a look at some of PF’s examples.
A Black Kitchen Design Using Farrow & Ball Paints
Off-Black Kitchen Project in Hitchin
Off-Black by Farrow & Ball creates a cosy area in this spacious room. The look has been softened by a light oak herringbone floor, a luxurious Carrara worktop and lightly coloured furnishings. The stand-out feature is the muted metal found on the handles and tap.
Railings Kitchen Project in Royston
Check out this cool, country kitchen in a two-tone colour palette using Railings from Farrow & Ball. The soft black with cool blue undertones looks so handsome, especially paired with the Antiqued Satin Lacquered Armac Martin handles. The kitchen design has also been softened with a marble-style quartz and a solid wood breakfast bar.
Down Pipe Kitchen Project in Welwyn Garden City
A functional and beautiful space using a two-tone colour scheme, where the dramatic lead grey known as Down Pipe is found. The colour gives the space instant zeal and complements the lighter features of the wooden breakfast bar and copper fixtures and fittings.
If you are working with a smaller kitchen use a dark hue in small amounts as the intensity of it may create an enclosed feel. This could include a feature wall, light fittings or soft furnishings.
Fresh greens and a hint of gold
There is nothing more earthy and warming than a green hue. Green breathes fresh air in and is a traditional yet modern design that offers a super sophisticated timeless aesthetic. It’s a colour palette that is here to stay and it will work all year round with the different accessories you choose.
For the cooler months incorporate greys and blacks and in the hot summer months add neutral creams and terracotta accents.
A Green Kitchen Design Using Farrow & Ball Paints
Minster Green Kitchen Project in Ashwell
The most perfect Victorian bespoke kitchen hand-painted in Minster Green from Farrow & Ball. It has been perfectly married with gold tones and high-end black gloss appliances. Such an inviting kitchen and one of our faves!
Are you just wanting to add a touch of green? Furnishing such as green velvet can be added to the seating areas and gold and black can be added with beautiful artwork.
The obvious… blue and white
We have created many blue and white designs, they can represent blue winter skies and snowy hilltops that turn into chilly sceneries. Don’t think of this particular design as a cold place to spend time in, because we can show you how to take the chill off.
A dark blue hue can create a rich aesthetic, combining it with bright gold or copper accents and a snowy white quartz – the perfect cool winter scene.
Warm up the look with plenty of amber lighting and thick, snuggly textures such as faux fur, velvet and velour.
All White & Blue Pearl Kitchen Project in Hitchin
Completed in the summer but warmed up in the winter with the choice of All White from Farrow & Ball and Blue Pearl from Paint & Paper Library. The rich textures from the wood and the dark tones of the bar stools, pendants and window frames create a dark winter mood.
Luxe look with marble
Bring the outside in during winter with marbled patterns such as beautiful and luxurious quartz worktops. There are also so many other marble-themed items you can add to your kitchens such as small appliances, table settings and utensils.
Pair it with natural-themed cabinetry such as oak so you can see the grains and textures of the wood.
