A Green Kitchen Design Using Farrow & Ball Paints5 min read

Green is a lush and uplifting choice for any room in the home. We think it is best used in the kitchen as it’s often associated with health and rejuvenation and we all know the kitchen is the heart of the home, where we spend the most time. The colour green can bring life to any space, representing the balanced tones of nature and promoting a feeling of wellness and vigour. We all want to bring a little outdoors, indoors.

Farrow & Ball have a huge range of greens in their collection from deep forest green and vibrant emerald to delicate, understated sage. A few of our clients have opted for a dark green or mid-tone one.

A little history of Farrow & Ball

In the 1900s two friends named John Farrow and Richard Ball shared the same passion for making rich colours in an original formulation using only the finest ingredients. They used their surnames to create the company brand and added lots of inspiring colours to the colour chart each year that went with the era of time.

In this blog, we will talk about some of the green paints from Farrow & Ball in more detail and show you some examples of these in our hand-painted projects.

Mizzle

Mizzle from Farrow & Ball is a soft grey-green that is modest and named after West Country evening skies when there is a mix of both mist and drizzle. The green pigment within diminishes any cool blue tones, creating a lighter shade of Pigeon and Blue Gray. This green tone makes any room feel soft.

Minster Green

Minster Green from Farrow & Ball is an inviting deep green that has a lived-in feel that works wonderfully in traditional spaces. Its name is inspired by Dorset, the market town of Wimborne Minster. Minster Green is deep and more aged than Calke Green and more intense than Green Smoke.

In this traditional kitchen space, our client opted for the Minster Green to work alongside the gold features and the famous AGA. Creating a classic setting with the colours, this traditional style has never looked so good and is a great example of a Victorian kitchen!

Treron

Treron from Farrow & Ball is a dark grey-green, a darker green version of the classic Pigeon colour, taking its name from a green-feathered genus of the pigeon family. It has a traditional feel to it but is also perfect for modern homes where lots of natural materials are used or as an accent for both French Gray and F&B’s Traditional Neutrals.

The bespoke handmade furniture in this bootility is hand-painted in the dark grey-green known as Treron. The beautiful shade is accented with the pretty pink tiling and herringbone floor.

Lichen

Lichen from Farrow & Ball is a mid-aged green that is calm and muted and named after the ever-changing, subtle colour of creeping algae that ages stone so beautifully. The colour has a quiet and subtle feel to it, due to its underlying blue tone, and is perfect for use in the garden where it feels totally at one with nature. It works wonderfully as a darker accent to Vert de Terre too.

As part of a new development project we got involved with, Elmoor Avenue Plot 2 was hand-painted in the mellow Lichen green. It complements the natural parquet flooring in this L-shaped kitchen layout and straight away a tranquil room has been created.

Breakfast Room Green

Breakfast Room Green from Farrow & Ball is such a cheerful colour, remaining lively in both bright sunlight or softer candlelight. Named after the usually east-facing rooms designed for eating the first meal of the day, it is particularly beautiful in the dawn light. We can imagine painting this onto our handmade kitchen cabinets as it will look incredibly striking.

Cooking Apple Green

Cooking Apple Green from Farrow & Ball is a fresh iconic green which always feels charmingly familiar and, like all greens, creates a feeling of health and vigour. When used in darker situations it has a rich and traditional look, but often feels much fresher and brighter in well-lit rooms and when contrasted with a bright white.

Duck Green

Duck Green from Farrow & Ball is a smart deep green that is a favoured green from the new Colour by Nature palette, created in collaboration with the Natural History Museum to bring the true colours of nature into your home. We can all guess where the deep green name comes from… the green plumage of a mallard. Duck Green is a wonderful reminder of the exquisite colours of nature. Strong but subdued, it offers a contemporary alternative to charcoal shades for modern homes. Pair with Deep Reddish Brown for a warm and welcoming space.

Our walk-in pantry showcased at the showroom has been hand-painted in the rich green of “Duck Green”. This smart colour has been highlighted with natural materials including a quartz worktop.

California Collection: Palm

Palm from Farrow & Ball is a pale, fresh green that is a love letter to the iconic palms that dot the LA skyline. The colour has a desaturated quality as if always being seen in the clear, bright light characteristic of California.
