Eleven New Colours from Farrow & Ball5 min read

Looking for a new colour to add to your kitchen design, meet the 11 new colours from Farrow & Ball inspired by moments of joy, comfort and refreshment to bring delight to your decorating. The first additions to their much-loved colour card in four years, these versatile new shades range from a lively, flame red to a soft, delicate pink, perfect for that shaker-style kitchen.

The history of Farrow & Ball started back in Dorset in 1946, with local pioneers John Farrow and Richard Ball. Farrow was a trained chemist who worked for Ireland’s Agnew Paints during the Second World War, while Ball was an engineer who survived capture as a prisoner of war.

They met at a local clay pit and together shared their passion for making rich colours to original formulations only using the finest ingredients. The duo went through a lot together but throughout the years the company began to grow and in 2010 they made the bold decision to move their entire range of oil-based paints to eco-friendly water-based finishes.

Farrow & Ball’s unique look transforms modern and traditional homes, large and small, inside and out around the world, always going back to their original Dorset roots.

Let’s take a look below at the new colours Farrow & Ball bring to their palette and how they can be used in your handmade bespoke kitchen.

Stirabout

Sitrabout is inspired by the nurturing porridge favoured over many centuries in Ireland. This earthy neutral consists of just a tint of an underlying grey, perfect for creating a relaxed feel, which will never be too cold.

Eddy

Eddy, a gentle green that’s named after the circular currents enjoyed by wild water swimmers as a natural jacuzzi. This calm, soft green creates a seamless connection with nature, perfect alongside raw materials. You will definitely get a sense of fresh air when opting for this colour in your home. Eddy, is a delicate tone without crossing into pastel and is an ideal choice for calm, relaxing spaces.

Tailor Tack

Tailor Tack is Farrow & Ball’s lightest and most delicate pinks. This charming colour is that of the tacking thread used in Haute Couture ateliers. Just because it’s delicate it has plenty of strong characteristics. Tailor Tack is perfectly paired with vintage finds or industrial accents, this shade works well in both traditional and modern schemes.

Templeton Pink

Templeton Pink is a historic-feeling pink that is warm and welcoming, particularly in low light where this shade becomes surprisingly deep. This shade was developed for the dining room at Templeton House to offset the magnificent Wedgwood plaques made to commemorate the former owner. This hue also suits a contemporary setting just as well and we think it will look beautiful in one of our handmade kitchens.

Bamboozle

Bamboozle is a fiery hue, originally used to describe the deceit of pirates. This spirited, flame red brings joy and warmth to any room scheme and is easy to use in both traditional and modern homes. It will hold its own in any light and pairs brilliantly with other strong colours, like Beverly and Wine Dark.

Hopper Head

Hopper Head is a classic charcoal that sits between the ever-popular Railings and Down Pipe, which you would have come across in our project portfolio. This classic charcoal hue is inspired by the attractively designed iron containers used to catch rainwater at the top of a downpipe. Hopper Head is ideal for creating inviting spaces and works beautifully with nearly any shade, creating dramatic spaces.

Selvedge

Selvedge is a laid-back blue and named after the highly prized denim woven on a shuttle loom to produce closed edges. It’s particularly good in low-light spaces, creating a familiar and friendly atmosphere, making it suited to rooms you spend time in, in the evening. It pairs beautifully with accents of darker colours like Inchyra Blue or Hopper Head.

Kittiwake

Kittiwake is a clean, cool blue inspired by the wings of seabirds when seen in bright sunlight. Sitting between Parma Gray and Lulworth Blue, Kittiwake has a touch of more black pigment creating a warmer, more relaxed feel. This shade is perfect for open-plan living spaces, staying truly blue in all lights. This sophisticated blue hue also complements stainless steel especially well, so is ideal for contemporary kitchens. It also looks fantastic with Wine Dark and Borrowed Light.

Wine Dark

Wine Dark is a rich, dark blue inspired by midnight skies, this spiritual colour is named after the term Homer used to describe the sea. This is F&B’s richest blue, the perfect addition to their strong blue family, being more sophisticated than Stiffkey Blue and more upbeat than Hague Blue. When used in low light, Wine Dark becomes even richer, making it particularly glamorous in candlelight and perfect for creating intimate spaces. Imagine this on a kitchen island, dreamy!

Whirlybird

Whirlybird is a lively green and will create such an upbeat space. A lighter version of Breakfast Room Green, Whirlybird is inspired by the papery winged seeds beloved by many young gardeners and nature lovers. It looks particularly lively in the morning light and is complemented by Beverly and James White.

Beverly

Beverly a clean, forest green that is named in honour of a kind and generous member of the Farrow & Ball team who is sadly no longer with us. A dependable, uncomplicated colour, with the ability to feel even greener in bright daylight or more conservative in lower light. This green shade is a beautiful addition to any home and will continue the kitchen design trends of 2022, with green being a favoured colour for the hub of the home.
