PF Kitchen Design Notes – Streamlined and Handleless, Preston, Herts4 min read

We are delighted to take you on the journey of our new handleless project located in Preston, Herts. Built within a brand new extension of the home, our delightful handleless style sits to one side where a kitchen island zones the different areas. This huge open-plan space was destined for a handmade kitchen and more.

Let’s take a look below at the bespoke kitchen project in more detail and we hope we can give you some inspiration.

The Style – Interior & Exterior

We always want to talk about the style first, simply because this is exactly what you will be looking at! Our clients opted for a simple wipe-clean, handleless design in a two-tone colour combination. To open the cabinets we designed a ‘J’ pull handle at the tops of the base units and at the bottom of the wall cabinets – hidden and easy to use.

Each cupboard and drawer is built from solid oak which matches the other wooden elements found within the room and provides a sturdy frame suited to all types of small and bulky items.

The kitchen layout is an L-shape with an island built around a structural post in the middle of the room. One side of the island is slightly higher for a raised bar area where our clients and their guests can sit comfortably. The breakfast bar is made from solid planked oak.

The Colours

The white and blue theme is becoming increasingly popular in our kitchen designs, however, this is a different take as the lighter hue is in fact an understated grey. Our client didn’t want to have just one colour in her kitchen but wanted to make a statement with the island and base cabinets.

For the darker colour, Stiffkey Blue by Farrow & Ball was used – a deep, inky navy that sets the trend of big and beautiful blue kitchens. The wall cabinets are hand-painted in Ammonite by Farrow & Ball – an understated grey where the subtle tone creates a hushed and calming feel in homes both old and new.

A simple and stunning modern kitchen!

The Appliances

To add to the cohesive design, stainless steel appliances from Neff were chosen to sit along the main run of cabinetry. The bank of appliances includes 2x single ovens, 1x compact oven w/ microwave and 1x coffee machine. The ovens include slide and hide which is a must-have to include in your next kitchen. This invention saves space and makes room for more inspiration and imagination, after all, you are in the heart of the home.

The slide and hide have been a huge success. Neff believes that nothing should get in the way of culinary playtime and that’s why they invented an oven door that disappears entirely with a single move.

To the right of the bank of appliances, a Neff Induction hob sits with a Westin Cache extractor and the drinks cabinet is completed with a Neff wine cooler.

The Finishing Touches

To complete this hub of the home our client opted for a Quooker in polished chrome met with a white Blanco sink. This mix of materials certainly fits in with the light and airy aesthetics of the room.

Working our handmade furniture into other parts of the room is where we find this outstanding drinks unit. The perfect addition to your home makes serving drinks at dinner parties a truly theatrical affair. Integrated lighting is built into the interior and a hidden scalloped wine storage rack is located in the cupboards underneath.

The worktop used in all areas is CRL Calacatta Dorado Quartz. With its dramatic veining, the Calacatta Dorado is a luxurious surface that is perfect for making a statement. Drawing the eye with its beautiful and individual sense of character, this certain stone will bring elegance to proceedings whether used as a splashback or waterfall ends on an island.

Last but not least is the Le Mans corner unit we added to the design. It features two large trays one above the other, where each tray extends outwards in a swift, smooth operation to present their full contents, making them easily accessible.

We also connected the main kitchen area to a bootility – a utility and boot room in one. This room is separated by a pocket door which doesn’t compromise on space and our handleless cabinets flow through gracefully. We hand-painted this space in Ammonite by Farrow & Ball and added plenty of storage solutions into the space.
