PF Kitchen Design Notes – Modern & Timeless Lay-On Shaker, Hinxworth4 min read

In the heart of Hinxworth, we’ve achieved a balance of modern functionality with timeless elegance in a stunning lay-on shaker design. The whole design concept celebrates meticulous craftsmanship, thoughtful planning, and refined aesthetics. It was a space where our client could recreate their dreams into an entertaining hub built within a kitchen extension. We particularly love how the natural light bounces on each feature at different times of the day.

Get comfy and find out how our kitchen design and drinks dresser highlight every part of this extension.

The Style – Interior & Exterior

The conversation starts with the beautiful Lay-On Shaker known for its clean lines and subtle sophistication – a classic and versatile design. It’s a style that takes on a contemporary style from its classic shaker background. The approach of the doors sitting on top of the frame rather than recessed gives the kitchen a sleek, streamlined look that complements both modern and traditional homes.

Designed in a gallery layout, the kitchen maximises both form and function with parallel runs of cabinetry and worktops. Our client wanted to optimise their workflow and storage in the open-plan space, so a galley layout was the perfect fit. It ensures that every inch of the kitchen is utilised effectively, all while embracing the surrounding landscape.

Moving on to the inside of the cabinetry, each drawer and cabinet are lined with solid oak, a material chosen for its durability, warmth, and natural beauty. Our bespoke, handmade furniture is meticulously crafted using the finest quality materials, standing the test of time. The golden hues and rich grain patterns found in solid oak provide a luxurious contrast to painted exteriors. Our drawers and doors are all built with soft-close mechanisms.

The Colours

A perfect and balanced palette is found within the colour scheme, setting the tone for the chic entertaining hub. We combined just the right amount of each colour with a thoughtful placement to ensure harmony and coherence.

The Slaked Lime Dark is one of Little Greene’s popular, versatile shades. It grounds the space with a muted, elegant neutral that’s full of warmth and sophistication. We have hand-painted this onto the main cabinetry, offering a versatile backdrop. On the other hand, the Jack Black is introduced to add a dramatic edge that accentuates the shaker design on the kitchen island and drinks dresser. It is used to enhance the visual interest of the design, which we think looks breathtaking.

This particular colour combination strikes the perfect balance between subtlety and boldness for this family-friendly kitchen. Together, the colours create a delightful space that feels timeless yet contemporary, neutral yet distinctive.

The Appliances

Symmetry was at the forefront of this design where banked appliances were integrated on either side of the sink. A symmetrical layout elevates the space, where functional efficiency is met with sleek aesthetics. This banked look groups appliances such as ovens, a coffee machine and a microwave vertically, optimising the workflow for the home chef.

Our client is all for entertaining guests and enjoying daily meals in their new family kitchen, so this harmonious layout we designed and built, ensures a seamless and stylish experience for all.

Evenly spacing the appliances, the induction hob is at the heart of the kitchen, centrally positioned on the island. Having a hob placed here anchors the design, creating a focal point that draws the eye and promotes efficient cooking. What a beautiful setup!

The Finishing Touches

As we know a modern kitchen isn’t complete without a Quooker tap – it’s a much-desired feature. The instant boiling tap is met with a white Abode Sandon undermount sink.

Finishing off the sleek appearance of the cabinetry are the Armac Martin Gaumont handles. The Satin Antique Satin Lacquer finish is a nod to a traditional style matching the art deco design of the handle.

A breakfast pantry was a must-have on our client’s dream kitchen wishlist providing ample storage and a place to house the small appliances. Perfect for the busy family lifestyle, simplifies rushed mornings with its smart design. When open, it becomes an integrated part of the kitchen, and when closed, it blends seamlessly with the overall aesthetic, maintaining a clean and cohesive look.

The stunning and durable Artemistone worktops, featuring subtle veining, infuse the space with a touch of luxury. Enhancing the island is a beautifully crafted oak L-shaped breakfast bar, offering the perfect spot for socialising and casual gatherings before making your way to the formal dining table.

The Drinks Dresser

Echoing the kitchen’s design is the exquisite drinks dresser, painted in a dark and moody colour that makes entertaining evenings effortlessly stylish. Featuring a wine cooler and scalloped racks, it provides the perfect home for your favourite bottles and essentials for entertaining. Opening the bi-fold doors reveals a thoughtfully designed interior, while the glass-fronted cabinets elegantly display glassware and accessories.

We can see this is going to get some serious use this Christmas!
