Project Description

In between two beautiful villages of Digswell and Tewin, Welwyn, Herts, Harmer Green boasts this magnificent country home which we had the pleasure of designing and building a dream kitchen for the centre. Originally constructed in 1902, the 9-bedroom house sitting on 18 acres of land still displays a wealth of original features and impressive ceiling heights, with the property looking out onto stunning views.

This In-Frame shaker kitchen project showcases the perfect blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern functionality, bringing a rustic elegance to the heart and matching the overall decor. Designed in a beautiful L-shaped layout, it has been designed to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, which captures the timeless charm of country living, while offering the practical elements required for contemporary lifestyles.

Two colours were chosen: Farrow & Ball All White and Fired Earth Carbon Blue. The intense blue has been hand-painted onto the island to produce a powerful central island and the rest of the cabinetry is hand-painted in the softest most sympathetic colour. Furthermore, two worktops have also been chosen, a hard-wearing quartz and the rustic charm of a wooden top. The solid oak worktop can be seen on the seating area of the island and the side cabinet.

Having such a large space to work with the layout provides plenty of workspace and storage options, including a free-standing cabinet for dinnerware and serveware and a double-integrated pantry. Additionally, the kitchen island showcased at the centre serves as both a focal point and a multi-purpose space for food preparation, cooking, informal dining, and storage.

One of the key features of this kitchen is the carefully selected bank of Miele appliances. The different appliances and their functions tie in with the kitchen’s aesthetics together with high-performance functionality for both amateur and professional chefs.

Through thoughtful detailing and classic charm, ribbed glass cabinetry and even a beautiful curve in the cabinetry are found amongst the design. Combining the subtle deco look of Armac Martin’s Carlton handles with the effortless Gaumont handles and the tap that does it all, the Quooker, ensures a seamless blend of old-world charm and cutting-edge functionality.

Every element has been thought of and designed with ease of use in mind, making this kitchen as practical as it is beautiful. The overall design perfectly embodies rustic sophistication, offering a beautiful, functional space that complements the lifestyle of today’s modern families.
