What’s this Year’s Hottest Kitchen Trends for 20224 min read

Each year kitchen design trends either change or continue from the previous year. Being kitchen designers we see designs change, colours going in and out of fashion and textures/materials proving more or less popular. In 2020 and the beginning of 2021 we saw the nation spending more time at home and investing in their properties due to Covid-19. This pandemic has had a significant impact on how we use our homes today.

When researching the kitchen trends for this year we have noticed that open shelves are sought after, mirrored splashbacks are beautifully placed behind the cooking and sink areas and bespoke handmade bars have become more popular than ever, have you seen how many we have designed into our projects???

In this blog, we have put together the kitchen trends for 2022. We hope we can give you some inspiration for your new kitchen project.

Open Display Shelves

Open display shelves are a popular addition to the modern kitchen design. Great for industrial styles as well as the traditional shaker kitchen. These types of shelves also add warmth and cosiness to large open-plan rooms, breaking up the style and creating a place for your favourite plants, decorative vase and cookbooks, turning them into something functional.

Timeless and Beautiful Splashbacks

Antiqued mirrored splashbacks have become a trend in the latest kitchen designs, where clients are opting for these decorative pieces to match their interior as well as have an easy cleaning and create a great camouflage for dirt. There is a huge choice of different finishes available on the market today, but the ones that have been in huge demand are the antiqued and smoked-style ones.

Glass splashbacks have many advantages to them, they reflect the natural daylight throughout the day and add a mood light in the evening.

We have designed these timeless and beautiful splashbacks in many of our projects. Take a look below at a few of them. What one’s your favourite?

Bespoke Drink Dressers

Due to the pandemic and it having a huge impact on our lives and homes, many homeowners have adapted their properties to meet new requirements and lifestyles. The bespoke drinks dresser has been a trend since 2020 and it continues to be a firm favourite this year. It’s the perfect addition to any space whether in the kitchen or in a large open-plan living space where family and friends can be entertained.

This is another bespoke kitchen design that we have had the pleasure of introducing into many of our recent projects. The bespoke drinks dresser is also good for additional kitchen storage and providing a focal point in the available space.

Bold & Light Kitchen Colours

Green has been a popular colour choice for handmade kitchens in the last couple of years, but this year we saw a return for more neutral colours, creating the beautiful Scandi look. Bolder kitchens are still popular and we have had the pleasure of creating them in many parts of the UK, but we do see these hues being used mainly on statement pieces like the island.

The kitchen island doesn’t just have to be the best dividing unit in an open-plan space, but it’s also the opportunity to show it off and make a statement with a bold colour.

Workstation in the Kitchen

With many of us working from home more than ever before, a separate office may not be an option, so squeezing a desk into the home has become a design must-have. Whether it’s concealed in a freestanding larder unit that can be closed at the end of the day, or designed onto a seamless extension of the kitchen such as a peninsular using the same units and work surfaces, these are all appropriate ways from working at home.

This flexible workspace we created in this grandeur kitchen has space for your computer or laptop and drawers built in enabling you to store paperwork and stationery.

Metallic Accents

We are seeing more gold and bronze toned accessories when looking through kitchen designs and homeowners are certainly becoming braver and bolder using them. Previously you would only see slight hints of these tones throughout the kitchen such as the handles or taps, but recently we have started to see under-mounted sinks and other features in these finishes.

Silver and chrome will never get old, they have been the go-to colour for many years for kitchen accessories, and we are now seeing that luxury and hotel decadence being added to homes all over the world.
