The Rangemaster – An Unrivalled Performance5 min read

Choosing a Rangemaster for the heart of the kitchen is a good choice as the kitchen is always the heart of the home. Rangemaster is Britain’s No.1 range cooker manufacturer, specialising in quality, design and advanced features.

A freestanding range cooker has so many benefits, which we will take a look at below. This type of appliance also provides a statement centrepiece to the kitchen – whether it’s professional-style stainless steel or a colourful finish – a range cooker can offer so much more in terms of cooking capacity and flexibility.

We know there’s one for you!

Who is Rangemaster? – A little history

Rangemaster started their story in 1803 when John Flavel moved his operation to Leamington Spa. Many generations of the Flavel family became civic leaders in the town and the factory itself became a major local employer. In 1830, the mighty Eagle Foundry was built.

The new foundry enabled John’s son William to expand and develop the Kitchener range cooker. The Kitchener was manufactured in cast iron and heated by solid fuel and was used to boil, roast, bake and warm – all from the same heat source. It was then hailed as one of the greatest domestic institutions of the 19th Century.

Sadly William Flavel died in 1844 with his son Sidney taking over and running the firm. In 1851 he exhibited the Kitchener at the Great Exhibition, in Crystal Palace where Her Majesty Queen Victoria and her aunt, the Duchess of Gloucester attended. The Duchess was so impressed with the Kitchener she ordered one for Kensington Palace.

Throughout the end of the 18th Century and the first half of the 19th Century, the Kitchener won many more awards throughout the world. As the Victorian era wore on, the Kitchener went from strength to strength.

Following the First World War, developments in gas and electricity paved the way for the next generation of range cookers. Much of the historic cast iron technology was adopted by Rangemaster’s sister company AGA.

From 1951 to 1995 the boundaries of innovation were pushed and Rangemaster was the first to offer colour shaded cookers. Then, in 1995, Rangemaster launched its first double oven range cooker (the Rangemaster 110), which would become their best-ever-selling range cooker so far.

2015 saw Rangemaster manufacturing their millionth modern range cooker!

In 2019, Rangemaster continued to lead the way by introducing the Nexus Steam. This brand new unique cooker combines a variety of cooking functions in one single appliance including a dedicated steam cavity. The whole family can enjoy a healthy meal and the food retains its natural vitamins, minerals, texture and taste.

Why Range Cooking and Why a Rangemaster?

A Rangemaster range cooker gives you a bigger oven, or two ovens if you prefer. Each range cooker includes a multifunctional oven that can defrost, fan grill, brown and fan assist, with a rapid response for faster heat-up times. There’s also a high-powered grill, a choice of gas, ceramic or induction hob, a powerful wok burner and even a storage drawer. Now, that’s a lot packed into a cooker that’s only 30cm wider than a standard built-in oven.

  • They look fantastic in any kitchen style – whether you are planning a traditional or contemporary kitchen, there’s a style and colour designed to fit perfectly into your scheme.
  • A more cost-effective choice – when it comes to purchasing a range cooker, you only have to buy a single item rather than all the other pieces associated with buying a built-in option.
  • Multifunction ovens – the multifunction oven offers seven functions for really flexible cooking. From crisping up the base of your pizza to browning your favourite pasta dish!
  • The ovens are bigger – typically 20% bigger than an average 60cm built-in oven which means you can cook more and worry less about timing your dishes and keeping food warm.
  • There can be two ovens – catering for bigger groups has never been so easy, as you have plenty of cooking space for all the dishes.
  • Variety of colours – choose from a stunning palette of colours and bring your kitchen alive.
  • Reducing cooking odours – the vent appears at the rear of the cooker so cooking odours and steam are more readily extracted through the cooker hood.
  • Storage space – some range cookers have a handy storage drawer which is ideal for storing all those baking trays and roasting dishes you want to keep out of sight.
  • Wok burner – for some dishes such as stir-fries, you need a wok burner to get you there faster and help you produce the authentic taste of Asian cuisine that an ordinary hob cannot.
  • Packed with burners – all the flexibility you could need to create the most sophisticated of menus.
  • Make the most of your space – whether you have a small or large kitchen, range cookers can help make the most of your space.
  • Dedicated grill – most range cookers offer a dedicated high-powered grill designed to grill or brown your dishes to perfection.

The Rangemaster Elise is made with a high-quality French feel and has the aesthetic appeal of a professional-looking appliance. It’s the perfect addition for home cooks and novice chefs alike where you can choose from various widths to suit all spaces. The distinctive colour palette that the Elise is available in is complemented by sturdy cast iron pan supports, a multi-ring burner and a wok cradle on the dual fuel designs white the electric model features an easy-clean induction hob.

In this kitchen design our client opted for the contemporary white to match the style of their kitchen. The brushed chrome trim that was chosen complements the other metallics found within the space, and it’s certainly a wonderful design!

We built the range along the main kitchen run, where large supporting corbels were placed above to create a stunning mantle that houses the cooker hood.
