Hatching The Egg – The History Behind The Big Green Egg
The story began in the 1970s when American Ed Fisher started importing pinball machines from Japan to sell in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. To broaden his summer offering, he started shipping over some Japanese kamado grills and for a marketing exercise, he used one of them to cook some chicken wings at the front of the store.
With each chicken wing that was cooked, the flavour proved such a revelation to the barbecue-loving people of the Deep South, that Ed gave up on arcade machines and focused solely on the kamado business. It wasn’t long before he became frustrated by the complexity of importing the kamado as well as the lack of control he had over the design of the products, so decided to embark on a journey of building a barbecue of his own. That was when the Big Green Egg was born!
One of Fisher’s friends worked for a company that developed ceramics for NASA space shuttles and with this knowledge, he helped Ed identify the perfect material for the EGG’s shell. These patented NASA-grade ceramics offer unrivalled heat retention, control and durability, which is why they come with a lifetime guarantee.

PF’s Outdoor Kitchen Projects
A property in Gosmore, Hertfordshire was undergoing lots of renovation works including a garden project. The homeowners always had a vision of landscaping their garden to create different sections for the family to enjoy, and they also love entertaining so an outdoor kitchen was definitely on their wishlist!
Fast forward to when this lovely couple arrived at our showroom with lots of inspiration on how they would like their outdoor space to look. Remembering it was an outdoor space and the features they chose would have to be suitable for all weather, we worked with them both and came up with this Lay-On Slated Timber design with high-quality cooking equipment and materials. Sat below a roof that would help for shade but also provide adequate lighting is a single piece of furniture that offers a spacious bar to sit and serve at, a granite known as the Nero Zimbabwe specially designed to house the Big Green Egg and an outdoor drinks fridge that is stocked ready for those wonderful garden parties.
Combining the natural timber with the granite worktop and stainless steel finish creates a look very much of today, but with high-quality materials that will stand the test of time in all weather!
The focal point is how the Big Green Egg sits amongst the cabinetry. It has its own section that is open-fronted so you can see the full design. Our client opted for the popular large size which is great for families and those who entertain. The size of the Large Egg means that it is perfect when cooking for just two people or when needed, can handle parties of up to fifteen.
