For over 30 years, Vincent Sheppard has been designing and manufacturing a wide variety of indoor and outdoor furniture. They started with a goal to honour and preserve the tradition and history of the Lloyd Loom weaving technique. Their focus right from the beginning in 1992 has always been to combine quality and comfort with craftsmanship and traditional weaving techniques, to present qualitative, durable and appealing designs.
The fascinating history of Lloyd Loom started in America in 1917, during the ambiguous times of World War I. Entrepreneur Marshall Burns Lloyd, who was producing baby carriages and strollers at that time, found himself confronted with a severe drop in the supply of rattan as a result of the war. As an alternative, he tried out a process and invented a technique in which paper is twisted around a metal wire and subsequently machine woven into large sheets of woven paper thread – the Lloyd Loom process. Marshall then realised that this new material was not only stronger but also a lot softer and thus more comfortable than rattan.
A global company
Vincent Sheppard has become a worldwide market leader in ‘Lloyd Loom’ furniture, a technique where kraft paper is twisted around a metal wire and woven into unique furniture pieces. Today, each piece of their furniture is exported to more than 50 countries on six continents and the number keeps growing. Look out for their designs when you are on your travels as their furniture can be found in the most beautiful hotels, homes and restaurants worldwide.
Craftsmanship
This luxury furniture company developed a close collaboration with the local people of Cirebon, Indonesia. Cirebon is known for its tradition in weaving and bending rattan, and Vincent Sheppard knew this was the perfect area to build its main production plant. The designs are made in Belgium and are finished there too with the knowledge and skills of the local craftsmen elevating their products to pieces of art.
Beauty for indoors and out
Vincent Sheppard’s indoor furniture firstly is designed to be extremely comfortable and secondly, a delight to the eye, creating chairs, tables, sofas, lighting and accessories in different durable materials with a distinct design.
Vincent Sheppard’s outdoor furniture range consists of highly qualitative designs which will add character to any outdoor area, especially an outdoor kitchen. The loom furniture is specially treated for outdoor use and furthermore, there is also a range of synthetic furniture that can be left outside all year.
